Andrei Stamatian approved as CEO of Energbank

Tallinn, Estonia, 22 January 2024. Iute Group, a leading European personal finance group that holds a 95% stake in Energbank S.A., has appointed Andrei Stamatian as the CEO of Energbank. Andrei Stamatian’s appointment was approved by the National Bank of Moldova. Lilia Boico was also approved as part of the executive management team.

Tarmo Sild, CEO of Iute Group: “I am very pleased to have Andrei lead Energbank. We continue working on a seamless integration of Energbank into the Iute Group, and empowering the management team with a highly skilled professional like Andrei is the next step to unleash the bank’s potential to contribute to the Group’s growth.“

Andrei Stamatian, CEO of Energbank: “We aim to build a flexible, technology-enabled financial partner that will attract many retail and SME clients while also building a strong employer brand. The strategy is to use 2024 to win hearts and minds internally and build digital capabilities. Then, starting in 2025, we will deliver results with quality and discipline to clients at an accelerated pace.

According to him, one of the key challenges for the banking industry in Moldova is that the population still has low incomes, and banking penetration is far behind the rest of Europe.

“The immediate priorities for Energbank are to make people believe success is possible and to have a few digital quick wins to prove this. We have started internal communication and formed the first digital project teams.”

Andrei Stamatian has extensive experience in the banking industry, having worked in various management positions in several banks in Romania, including banks owned by the Austrian Raiffeisen Group, the Romanian State, and the Italian UniCredit Group. He has held management board positions and led digital teams in building lending and digital onboarding solutions. He has a BA in economics from Stanford University and an MBA from INSEAD.
